A common pursuit of excellence
This year, as sailing fans set their eyes on the magnificent sailboats racing for the world’s oldest trophy in international sport, they can do it with a cup of Nespresso. Nespresso and the America’s Cup Event Authority (ACEA) have announced a partnership that will see Nespresso as the Official Coffee of the 34th America’s Cup in 2013.
This reaffirms a strong relationship between Nespresso and the America’s Cup that dates back nearly a decade. Nespresso is currently also an Elite Sponsor to Emirates Team New Zealand, which is widely held to be one of the top contenders in the competition.
“We are proud to be supporting such a prestigious and exciting event,” said Patrice Bula, Chairman of Nespresso. “Like the teams competing with cutting-edge technology in this ultimate sailing challenge, we strive for excellence. This partnership gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase Nespresso on a global stage.”
Three spectacular regatta series in 2013
The partnership means the company’s premium coffee capsules and advanced coffee machines will be used to supply Nespresso Grand Cru coffees for guests, partners and fans at one of the world’s great sporting competitions.
Activities begin this April in Naples, Italy, when the America’s Cup World Series returns for a final regatta. This new circuit allows teams to test their skills on the specially designed AC45 catamaran, intended as a smaller version of the extreme performance AC72 class wingsail catamarans that will be raced in San Francisco starting with the Louis Vuitton Cup (July 4 to August 30). The summer of sailing culminates with the America’s Cup Finals (September 7 to 21) that determine which team will succeed the current America’s Cup Defender, Team Oracle USA.
Nespresso strengthens US presence in San Francisco
The announcement of the Nespresso partnership with America’s Cup coincides with the official opening of America’s first West Coast Nespresso Boutique in San Francisco: “To be associated with one of the world’s greatest sporting events, taking place in San Francisco this summer, is an ideal opportunity for us to showcase the Nespresso brand on a global stage,” said Frederic Levy, President of Nestlé Nespresso USA.
Stephen Barclay, CEO of the America’s Cup Event Authority, added: “We are pleased and proud to welcome Nespresso as the Official Coffee of the 34th America’s Cup and look forward to being able to provide our guests, partners and fans with ‘the ultimate cup’ when they come to the America’s Cup Park in San Francisco.”
Nespresso and sailing: uniting passion, expertise and innovation
Nespresso began its association with the sport of sailing as co-sponsor of Team Alinghi for the 32nd America’s Cup campaign from 2004 to 2007, as well as being the Official Coffee to the event. In 2010, Nespresso and Wally, the world leader in yachting innovation, launched the Nespresso Cup, an international regatta exclusively for the Wally Class in Portofino, Italy, followed by a second edition in 2011. In the same year, Nespresso announced its support of Emirates Team New Zealand.
